The 6C8G is an octal-base high-mu twin triode introduced in the late 1930s for voltage amplifier, phase inverter, and mixer service in broadcast radio receivers and early audio equipment. Featuring a shoulder-type ST glass envelope and two top-mounted control grid caps, it offers high voltage gain while maintaining grid-to-plate isolation. Electrically, each section performs similarly to a single high-mu triode stage, serving as an early octal precursor to later dual triodes like the 6SL7GT. Operates on a 6.3V heater and fits standard 8-pin octal sockets. Available NOS and tested used.

  • Type: High-Mu Twin Triode (Audio Voltage Amplifier, Phase Inverter, Detector)

  • Base: 8-Pin Octal (EIA 8B / Dual Top Grid Caps)

  • Heater Voltage: 6.3V

  • Heater Current: 0.3A

  • Max Plate Voltage: 250V

  • Max Plate Dissipation (Per Section): 1.0W

  • Amplification Factor (Mu): 36

  • Transconductance: 1.3 mA/V (1300 micromhos)

  • Equivalents & Relatives: 6C8G, 6C8, 6F8G (medium-mu octal twin triode counterpart), 6SL7GT (later octal dual triode relative with internal grids), 12C8 (12.6V heater version)
