The 4ES8 (PCC188 equivalent) is a 9-pin miniature variable-mu twin triode designed for low-noise VHF RF cascode amplifier stages with automatic gain control (AGC) in radio front-ends and TV tuners. Operating on a 4.5V/300mA series heater, its frame-grid dual-triode construction delivers high gain and broad dynamic range. It was widely used in late-1950s and 1960s VHF tuner circuits by manufacturers such as Telefunken, Grundig, Philips, and RCA. Available in NOS and tested used conditions.
