The 6B7 (and its ST glass version, 6B7S) is a 7-pin multi-unit tube combining two diodes and a sharp-cutoff pentode in a single glass envelope with a top grid cap. Introduced by RCA and Zenith in the 1930s, it was designed for radio receivers where the diode sections handle AM detection and AGC voltage generation, while the pentode section serves as an IF amplifier, RF amplifier, or high-gain audio preamplifier. Operates on a 6.3V heater and fits standard 7-pin large-pin sockets. Available NOS and tested used.

  • Type: Dual Diode / Sharp-Cutoff Pentode (Detector / AGC / IF / Audio Amplifier)

  • Base: 7-Pin Standard Large Pin (EIA 7A / Top Grid Cap for Pentode Grid 1)

  • Heater Voltage: 6.3V

  • Heater Current: 0.3A

  • Max Plate Voltage (Pentode): 250V

  • Max Screen Grid Voltage (Pentode): 125V

  • Max Plate Dissipation (Pentode): 1.0W

  • Transconductance (Pentode): 1.0 mA/V (1000 micromhos)

  • Amplification Factor (Mu, Pentode): ~650 (approximate voltage gain in resistance-coupled circuit)

  • Equivalents & Relatives: 6B7, 6B7S, 6B8 / 6B8G / 6B8GT (octal equivalent family), 12B7 (12.6V heater version)
