The Type 38 (originally designated UY-238 or CX-338) is a 5-pin grid-cap indirectly heated power amplifier pentode designed for audio output stages in early 6.3-volt automobile and battery-operated radio receivers. Introduced by RCA and Cunningham in 1931, it features a 6.3-volt heater and pentode construction engineered to deliver efficient audio output at modest plate voltages supplied by battery sets.
